Application Process

What to send, where to send it, and what happens next.

What to send

For every role, three things:

  • A curriculum vitae, one or two pages.
  • A covering note of no more than a page, saying what you want to do and why this firm. Generic notes are obvious and do not help you.
  • A writing sample — a pleading, research note, memo or essay of your own work, with anything confidential redacted. For interns, a good academic piece is fine.

Where to send it

To contact@samaantalawfirm.com, with the position in the subject line: “Associate — Litigation”, “Associate — Corporate”, “Internship” or “Research”. Attach documents as PDFs.

What happens next

  1. Acknowledgement within one working day.
  2. First review within a week. The writing sample is read first.
  3. Conversation, in person at the Delhi office or by video. This is a discussion about the work, not a viva. You should ask us questions too.
  4. Exercise, for associate roles: a short drafting or research task with a realistic deadline, so we both see how the work actually goes.
  5. Offer or decline, with a reason either way.

A note on reapplying

A decline is not permanent. Several people here were unsuccessful on a first approach and joined later. If you reapply, tell us what has changed.

Consultation

Speak to a lawyer about your matter.

Tell us what has happened and what you need. We will tell you candidly whether you have a case, what it would take, and how the matter would be conducted.
