A small firm, deliberately
Samaanta Law Firm is small and intends to stay that way for a while. The practical consequence for anyone joining is that there is nowhere to hide and no shortage of responsibility. You will draft, you will appear, and you will speak to clients. Nobody here spends a year photocopying.
What you will actually do
In the first months, an associate will typically research and draft under supervision, attend court on their own matters, prepare briefs for senior counsel where the matter requires it, and handle direct client communication on progress. Within a year, associates are conducting their own matters end to end.
What we look for
- Accuracy over speed. A citation that does not say what you claim it says is worse than no citation. We would rather a draft took an extra day.
- Willingness to say “I do not know”. In court and in this office alike.
- Plain writing. Pleadings that a judge can follow at speed win more often than pleadings that demonstrate erudition.
- Comfort with the unglamorous parts. Indexing documents, checking whether a judgment still holds, reading the brief twice. It is most of the work.
What we offer
Direct court exposure from the start, a named person responsible for your development, work across litigation and advisory rather than a narrow silo, and a firm where the person who reads your draft is the person who will argue it. Compensation is discussed openly at offer stage.
What we do not offer
We are not a large firm and do not have the training infrastructure of one. If you want a structured graduate programme with rotations, this is not that. If you want to be in a courtroom in your first month, it is.
