What the internship involves
Interns at Samaanta Law Firm attend court, read live files, and draft. You will sit in on client conferences where the client consents, research points that are actually in issue, and prepare notes that are actually used. You will also do some of the dull work, because indexing a paper book properly is a skill and someone has to have it.
Duration and timing
Internships run for a minimum of four weeks, and we take interns throughout the year rather than only in vacations. Longer internships are more useful to both sides: four weeks is roughly the point at which a matter you saw at the outset comes back for its next effective hearing, and seeing that is most of the value.
What you will come away with
- An understanding of court procedure and decorum that law school does not teach.
- Experience of drafting under a real deadline, with your draft marked up honestly.
- A working knowledge of how to research a next-day hearing on Manupatra, SCC Online or Indian Kanoon and identify what is actually binding.
- A candid reference, if the work merits one.
The workshops
The programme grows out of the litigation-skills workshops the firm runs at law schools. If your institution would like a session, write to us; details are on the Media page.
